It will be appreciated, therefore, if such errors and omissions are brought to our attention. Further, some companies undoubtedly have been omitted, due possibly to their failure to reply to the Georgia Tech inquiry for information and/or to inadequate checking of town or city listings by local sources. The information for this directory has been obtained directly from the industries and/or from responsible local sources and every care has been exercised to insure accuracy, but both the compilers and the publisher recognize that errors - both factual and typographical - are certain to occur in a publication of this magnitude. Grateful acknowledgment also is due the many company officials, plant owners, local Chambers of Commerce, bankers, state agencies, public officials, trade organizations, newspapers, and private cit izens who have so cordially assisted in providing information and in checking data on the industries in their respective areas. Without that help, this directory would not have been possible, and we extend to the Georgia Power Company and its personnel our sincere appreciation for their assistance. The work of compilation has required more than a year' s effort by the Industrial Development Branch of the Georgia Tech Engineering Experiment Station. Never before has there ever been an attempt to provide as comprehensive information on Georgia industries as is given in this directory. there are general subject and location indexes. Two indexes provide listings of firms by (1) types of products manufactured, as classified under the Standard Industrial Classification and (2 ) firm name. In these primary city-town listings, data are given on employment, date of establishment in Georgia, products, and, in most instances, names of owners, managers, purchasing agents, or other officials of the firm. In the present ed ition, for the first time, Georgia manufacturing and mining firms are listed by cities and towns with specific information on each firm's operations. The Georgia Manufacturin g Director y is a completely revised and expa nded edition of a previous indu strial directory issued by the Department of Commerce in 1958.
